“Serious about being unserious…”
And now…the moment you’ve all been waiting for…our next hub resident for 2025….darcie Rae!
Hey Darcie Rae, introduce yourself to the world. Who are you, and what’s your schtick?
I’m a circus artist who is passionate about making joyful, engaging art that is appealing to the general public. I love making site-specific works and including interactive elements to bring the room together. My collaborator Calum is very serious about being unserious, a fantastic clown who adores making audiences laugh and creating unique characters.
Your 2025 HUB Residency will be focused on bringing to the stage your work Survival On a Strange Planet. Tell us about it!
Survival On a Strange Planet is a joyful, comedic and highly original multidisciplinary work incorporating circus, puppetry, and physical theatre, that explores gendered social norms in storytelling through the eyes of a naive interplanetary explorer discovering human pop culture for the first time.
What do you hope the impact of your will be?
We just want people to have a really good time, tell their friends, and come back for our other shows. ;)
And finally, what are you most excited for for the 2025 HUB Residency program?
I’m so grateful to Backbone for providing the space for my collaborator, Calum and I to rehearse and present a full-length version of this work. We created 20 minutes of this piece in 2024 with Dead Puppets Society’s DPS Academy, and we’ve been itching to have the opportunity to extend on this world we created and complete this story.
