UTC’s PLAYGROUND FESTIVAL 24’ – 26’ | October 3rd

A$15.00

Three intimate two-handers from Underground’s Playground Festivals 24’-26’

Underground Theatre Company is the resident student theatre company at the University of Queensland. They have operated since 1912 and are committed to platforming new Australian plays and providing opportunities for young people to learn about and engage in theatre.

Every year, Underground runs a script development program for emerging writers titled ‘Writers Room’. Over two months of training with our development officer, each playwright produces a 20-minute script for a staged reading. These plays then go in the running for our annual ‘Playground Festival’.

This festival then brings together new directors, actors, technicians and designers to sink their teeth into new writing from their community. Playground is both a testing site for new writers and a launch pad for new creatives.

This event will showcase three short plays that have been shown at Playground Festivals from 2024, 2025 and 2026 respectively.

By purchasing a ticket, you are helping to keep UTC development initiatives alive into the future, ensuring that there is always a place for young people to enter our industry.

Presented by Underground Theatre Company.

THE PLAYS

Maggot Therapy by Ella Kratzer

Jordan and August have been housemates for too long. Their closeness is starting to stink. But are maggots a symptom or a cure?

Something Very Human by Charlize Kruger

Charlie Armstrong and Sam Valentine’s ship is hit by a foreign object, leaving them drifting in space with only a few minutes left of oxygen. They must spend that time figuring out how to live. Or, when all else fails, how to die.

Mortis Memoria by Eloise Collins
It’s 2073, and Jude is rewatching his memories from palliative care, wishing he could take it all back.
