Backbone's Senior Producers join FUSE: National Youth Arts Summit

Our Senior Producers, Sampson and Quinn, are off to join FUSE, the National Youth Arts Summit hosted by Australian Theatre for Young People (atyp), tomorrow and Wednesday on the lands of the Eora Nation.

This is an incredible opportunity for Backbone to gather with fellow youth arts organisations, companies & artists to address the many unique issues facing our sector, and work towards change together.

‘In 2008, there were 21 federally-funded youth arts companies, now there’s four.’ - Fraser Corfield, Artistic Director of Australian Theatre for Young People.

Although funding towards youth arts as dwindled on every Government level, and organisations all over the country (especially in Queensland) have had to close their doors, our success as a sector is more vital than ever before, and must be achieved together.

Young and early career artists need safe spaces to experiment, be curious, and share their vital stories. Sampson and Quinn can’t wait to represent Backbone, soak up everything there is to learn, and share upon their return.

You can read more about FUSE, and the challenges the Youth Arts sector are facing, in ArtsHub.
