HUB RESIDENCY

designed for curious, untamed, and experimental young artists to explore and create.

Backbone’s HUB Residency provides artists 30 years old and under, OR artists making work for children and families, with space, time, and resources to develop their projects.

Whether you're an individual creative practitioner or part of a collective, this is an open invitation for artists across theatre, music, visual art, dance, circus, and other artistic disciplines.

Backbone will supply each HUB Resident with up to 100 hours of free rehearsal space, development support from the Backbone team, and a presentation spot at Backbone Festival (October 2025).

Backbone creates space for young and emerging artists to grow their creative capacity, providing an opportunity to develop exceptional work that elevates their practice, and contributes to the growth of sharing diverse stories, voices, and perspectives.

Backbone’s HUB Residency is an artist-led opportunity that is development-focused, allowing artists the freedom to germinate ideas that are curious, untamed, and experimental.

“Programs like this are invaluable for artists, especially in Brisbane, where resources for independent creators can be limited. The residency not only allowed me to grow artistically but also to make lasting connections.”

“My project would not exist at all and not in the way it does without the resources and support provided by Backbone. They are an invaluable fixture in the Magandjin independent arts scene.”
