Senior Producer and Marketing Manager - Sampson Smith

Sampson is a maker of theatre, music, performance, drag and graphic design. A graduate of Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drama) with Honours in 2013, Sampson makes bold work that spans many contemporary forms. With Backbone, Sampson has coordinated marketing across their many programs, has produced events and festivals like Backbone Festival, Open Homes, and club night Candy Social Club.

Sampson was the Co-Artistic Director and Head of Marketing at The Sui Ensemble, directing their award-winning immersive event Awful/Big Adventure in 2016, and devising and performing in Matilda Award Winning La Silhouette (Best Independent Production, Melt Festival, Brisbane Powerhouse 2019), as well as being a part of the team touring the work to London’s Battersea Arts Centre Homegrown Festival. With this team, Sampson also produced fundraising performance night Tragic Trivia.

Notably, Sampson is a member of the comedy trio The Architects of Sound which has presented work at Brisbane Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Perth Fringe World, Melbourne Fringe and Melbourne Comedy Festival and more.

As a producer Sampson has worked with Access Arts for the Undercover Artist Festival (2017), and Anywhere Theatre Festival (2014). As a director, Sampson was awarded ‘Best Production’ at Short and Sweet 2014 for The Runaways. In 2012, Sampson was proud to act as the Artistic Director of Vena Cava Productions at QUT.
