Backbone aims to develop a borderless connection with schools and their communities. We are always open to new ideas, sharing ways of collaborating and ways that we can assist schools, students, teachers to be inspired through arts experiences.

Our schools programming includes; Touring Productions, Workshops, Teachers Advisory Group (TAG) and Yearly Overview Workshop planning.

We are a multi-arts company and we are more than happy to work with teachers from any arts background – so please feel free to ask us for assistance if you are looking for ways of inspiring children and young people in the school or community environment.

“Backbone Youth Arts are our Drama department’s backbone. In one email, Chris and Katherine book every workshop we need in a year. Whether it be Commedia, scriptwriting or Shakespeare, they consistently provide dynamic presenters who know how to engage our students. Backbone make our lives easier. They are highly organised and professional, and, as industry professionals, know what Drama teachers need.” – Emilia Keene, Acting Head of Drama, Iona College

For Primary and Secondary School Students, All Year Levels

Battling with Brecht? Antagonised by Absurdism? Feeling gloomy about Australian Gothic?

If a visit to your classroom by a key industry professional could bring your curriculum unit to life, Backbone can help!

Workshops can be provided in all areas of the drama curriculum and can be taught in a time frame that suits you, such as a class period, a whole day or across a number of weeks.

Our facilitators are available to come into schools and create work with your students. Backbone specialises in creating devised work with children and young people and we can apply this methodology to different themes that your school is looking at from child safety to environmental science.

Let us know what you are looking for!

In 2018 Backbone is going to offer a number of opportunities for professional development for educators, drawing from our extensive experience in working and communicating in theatre, performance and the arts with young people.
